is a multimedia work of journalism, featuring written stories, short documentaries, and interactive graphics to document the lives of Puerto Ricans and the hurdles they've faced in the midst of natural disasters, political unrest, and national identity crises. After traveling to Puerto Rico, I helped design the digital platform showcasing all of our work.
After Hurricane Maria in 2017, a group of previous UNC journalists traveled to Puerto Rico to report on the living conditions of the island. In 2023, I joined a new cohort of reporters to update the unfinished stories and lives of Puerto Ricans on the US Territory.
While working alongside our design team, we created a brand, various infographics, and a website to host all of the narratives we gathered during our time in Puerto Rico.
After publishing our project, Isla De Fuerza won a Golden Anthem Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. The Anthem Awards are one of the "largest and most comprehensive social impact awards" in the journalism field.
Drawing inspiration from the colorful streets of San Juan, we decided to split up our brand colors into 5 hex codes that coincide with the overarching theme of their documentary & article.
Electric Yellow was used on the story about Puerto Rico's power grid and exploration of sustainable energy sources.
Communal Orange was used to discuss how gentrification, COVID-19, and hurricane damage has effected the island's communities.
Authority Red helped highlight the story about Afro-Caribbean communities support each other despite government neglect.
Earthy Green was used on our reporting surrounding environmental damage and injustice.
And lastly, Healthy Blue was utilized to explore the realities of the opioid crisis and healthcare in Puerto Rico.

I was assigned to conduct research and design an interactive infographic for "A Cultural Anchor," an article focusing on Puerto Rican communities. My infographic explores the changing demographics of Puerto Rico throughout the past decades.
